WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A SPORTS MASSAGE?
There are many benefits to a sports massage, I have bullet pointed some of the key points below;
-
Designed to aid recovery between sessions
-
To reduce risk of injury
-
To treat muscle dysfunctions caused by repetitive strenuous exercise
-
Enhance sports performance
-
Improve joint range of motion
-
Increase flexibility
-
Reduce muscle tension

IS A SPORTS MASSAGE PAINFUL?
A sports massage will ultimately cause some discomfort, both during the session and after. However, this is completely normal and to be expected. The massage should not cause pain that results in the client having to heavily tense up in order to bear it. A good rule of thumb is that if you envision pain on a scale of 1-10, it should not exceed a 7.

As a sports massage therapist, I will have to apply a fair amount of pressure in order to achieve the goal of releasing tight muscles. Some areas are more painful than other but it is essential that you as the client, should provide regular feedback during the session.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Ultimately the answer to this question will heavily depend on the client. For example, a professional athlete who is training intensely multiple times per week and also competing will require more treatment than a client who works in an office. I will be able to provide my professional opinion on this matter to the individual client.

A good guideline to follow would be the following;
-
A regular gym goer or athlete who is training intensely, would benefit from a weekly or fortnightly treatment.
-
A client who lives a fairly sedentary lifestyle (minimal exercise) would be on a monthly basis.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A SPORTS MASSAGE?
